There are well over 30 different manufacturers and/or models of the .50 caliber rifle yet it is in our humble opinion that the Barrett .50 Cal Sniper Rifle is by far the gold standard by which all others are measured.
An interesting fact about shooting the .50 Cal Barrett Sniper Rifle is the fact that the recoil is nowhere near as bad as some people think it might be, on the contrary because of the total weight of the gun anywhere between 25 and 35 pounds the felt recoil is very manageable and significantly less than many high-powered hunting rifles. (Don’t worry the Rifle is on a bi-pod)
This means that male or female of any body size will have no problem experiencing the exhilaration and thrill of shooting this magnificent rifle!
Interestingly the rapport of the round going off is not as loud as you would think, but what is quite remarkable is the concussion or movement of air that the rifle creates, it is a shockwave that you must experience, it's more exciting than 10 roller coaster rides at the same time!
Imagine cranking off a round that leaves the barrel at nearly 3000 ft./s and can easily hit a target over a mile away! (1,609 meters)
I have been to shooting ranges all over the country, and the one that I found to be the most complete and impressive with the professional staff, and the variety of firearms available to shoot of not only the .50 caliber Barrett Sniper Rifle, but also a very large selection of machine guns that have been used dating back to pre-World War II to current times is the incredible experience you will have at one of outdoor ranges located just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada.
The several ranges that are located just outside of Las Vegas are in an area known as the Arizona strip, these ranges will provide all of your protective equipment for your eyes and ear protection, they provide the ammunition, and of course their expert instruction.

The shooting ranges themselves are set up similar to that of a military style bunkers which add to the overall experience and realism of shooting all the various firearms. Las Vegas Has Multiple .50 Cal Ranges For Shooters
The location of the Ranges are in Vegas, and several have many other full auto firearms, just in case you are thinking more Rambo than long range precision destruction.
Now for the meat of what you came for! The .50 BMG was designed in 1921 to fill the need for troops to have an ANTI-AIRCRAFT round, when aircraft and their subsequent raids and bombings were creating a whole new problem for Allied troops on the ground. It was soon realized that the raw power of the round allowed for a whole host of other uses against ground “problems” from the new beast of the battlefield known as tanks, to the problematic bunkers that light munitions would do little against. It soon became a savior to many men on the ground that had a hope to destroy a bunker before the famous, and often deadly charges mounted by light infantry soldiers of the era.
In the modern era the .50 BMG and the weapons that have evolved with its use have proven an invaluable weapon both for offensive and defensive purposes. On the battlefields of Vietnam, many soldiers owe their lives to brave men “on the gun” firing at NVA onslaughts in an attempt to repel the enemy with large volume of fire from the mighty gun when they were the sum total of any troops in their particular area in the time of small forward operating bases miles away from help.
From this to today’s battlefields with highly trained individuals yielding semi-automatic shoulder fired variants primarily designed by Barrett Manufacturing Inc. These weapons have the potential to neutralizing personnel or equipment at ranges that are barely visible to the human eye without very high magnification.
During my time in the U.S. Army I had several opportunities to “man the gun” in various situations, from mostly training exercises to a few real world incidents. And I am here to tell you that the experience of the mighty Ma Deuce never leaves you, even when you’re an avid firearms enthusiast.
The slow chug of high grain weight ammunition zooming down range, the pressure wave from each round still being felt even with a 45 inch barrel, pushing that trigger down, starting that amazing chain of events known as firing, Is something that never will leave my mind, even when you return home.
The respect that is beheld after firing such a pure display of raw power is again something to remember even before you see the round strike its target zone. If that does not convey the fun of the experience I do not know what will.
I used the .50 cal Barrett Sniper Rifle models only a few times, as I was not a qualified Scout Sniper, or a member of any Special Operations group, however my unit did have a Scout Platoon assigned to my Battalion, and while at the range they brought their new toy and allowed some of us to partake in the experience of firing a semi-automatic harbinger of destruction, and I must say, partake I did!

Inviting friends To Shoot The .50 cal Barrett Sniper Rifle And Machine Guns in Las Vegas
Already knowing the destructive capability of the mighty .50 BMG against hard targets in burst scenarios made the experience much more enjoyable, knowing that if I did my part the weapon would do its part, and put a ½ round through a hard target from brick buildings to light armored vehicles with surgical precision.
This particular weapon and its later designed brothers can be manned by someone just like you and not only those of us that have served in the armed forces.
I hope that in time some of you will find the time to do exactly that. Many of us know of someone who has fired this and/or many firearms of many designs and calibers throughout their lives, or are one of those firearms enthusiasts ourselves. The allure and feeling of doing such can be described in open conversation amongst those people who have or routinely do.
It’s come to my attention that many friends from “across the pond” in the United Kingdom are coming to enjoy such experiences whilst on their vacations to our country. To which I find this point a little odd in some instances. For an example, look at our friends in Germany to start. This is the country that designed and built the mighty Jaeger Rifle for which many of this countries classic firearms were designed around to include the Pennsylvania and Kentucky rifle which was used from the Revolutionary war, The war of 1812, to the Civil War and was used by most of the brave men and women expanding through the North American continent. They all used this basic design for security and food. It is odd that our country of freedom and liberties owe in large part our existence, to a rifle designed by a country that is extremely limited in its firearm usage and ownership.
Shooters From Around The World Come To Las Veags To Shoot Big Guns
To our friends in the United Kingdom...., Where to start. I know that Rifles, Shotguns, Black Powder firearms, and subsequent powder are allowed to be owned with proper licensing, but still very restricted. Many of the UK's early explorers used firearms with great tradition and history in their journeys across the world. These brave explorers proudly used their firearms for food, defense, and in many times tools in their voyages unlocking the secrets of the many corners of the globe.
Many of you have heard of Allan Quatermain I'm sure, but did you know that this adventures are fictional stories based on a real explorer named Frederick Courteney Selous. Frederick was known to use one of the largest caliber rifles known, a 4 bore monster he lovingly referred to as “baby”.
“Baby” was used for large game hunting, and fired a projectile roughly 1 inch in diameter. The UK is really the country to look to for many of the firearm and caliber innovations in the past 200 years. I openly invite the country that has brought us the great company known as Holland and Holland and its true innovation, artful design, and many of the largest calibers still to be seen on the planet, to come and enjoy what maybe the closest thing they can to what it was like to fire a weapon of equal, if not more power to what their forefather explorers did, and bring a real life experience and understanding to what they may only understand in a “once upon a time” way.
